My Best Memories

In MITIS, there are many activities that students work for but also can enjoy. When we were working for the events, every class was full of complaints about so many things regarding the activities. However, memories always turn positive when we look back! I was also a student who made PLENTY of complaints, but now I miss the times. Here are some of my best memories in school.

UN day Do you remember this event? In my memory, this is the first event that we really worked as a group. Students built their own booths which represent a particular country's characteristics, they made costumes for their countries, and they competed in a world-related quiz. I remember that grade 12’s booth (India) was so cool. I still remember the bright decorations that we also used for Christmas. Moreover, the highest grade got the first place in costume. Probably we can say that this event showed Grade 12’s power as the highest grade. Kidding. Anyway, students showed their collaboration though many students were new. Or probably these new faces are really the main weapon of MITIS. I myself only got here last year; you guys be the judge.

Mission-Vision Week – Booth Day The booth day was like a drop of rain in the desert for the students since they were actually tired of preparing for so many other occasions. Every class turned their rooms into enjoyable places: there was a board games room, karaoke room, horror room, movie room, and many other booths that provided food. Of course, each of the booths had payment. Though I still don't totally understand why we had to pay for booth entrance, the main thing is that some booths deserved to be paid for. The other students also say that this activity was very valuable because they could experience many things. However, I remember the karaoke room as the most popular booth. I have to say sorry to the other grades first since Grade 12 and some Grade 11 students occupied the booth all day long in all honesty. In behalf of the seniors, I would like to say sorry to the other students who wanted to sing in school! (Warning: Do not sing so loudly in school if you are not in a karaoke booth. Howling and shouting is included in Category A offenses.)

Field Trip

In this field trip, I think we saw how people can eat their words. We went to a bread factory of a brand which is very famous in the Philippines. Everybody complained about the boring stuff in the factory; it seemed like someone will erupt with dissatisfaction right away. When we walked the corridor, all of the students looked like they gave up on everything. However, when they got out with small packages of bread which was given at the exit, they were smiling. The next place was a farm; we thought the farm was for a CSO activity. However, we enjoyed too much. MIT students looked happy with the big cows, horses, and so on. Fishing was so hot, many students succeeded to get fish. Some could not get anything from the pond so they took a shallow joy playing with the captive aquatic creatures, it was so funny. (I'm not writing sarcastically because I did not catch a fish, okay?) The last place where we went was shocking. Many Grade 12 thought that it’s ridiculous, that it was just a play ground for the kids. Many students including myself sighed like they are not going to go in any ride or attraction. However, I am sure that the people who complained the most also enjoyed the most in the playground. I for one did not think that the 4D show would be that exciting.

MITIS Got Talent In my memory, MITIS Got Talent has always been cool. However, there were some differences in this year. There were so many new talented new faces such as Tim Choi and Ellen Oh. Grade 12 also prepared for this, there was no more Andrew’s one man show. Due to some teachers’ promises of a 'perfect long test’, the fever of the competition got really hot. At the time when we started to practice, everything seemed impossible. We could not imagine our joints moving like the the people in the videos, and the stances were also very hard to follow. However, there was a brave and bright hero who mostly led the practice, and that’s me. I practiced alone at first and encouraged classmates to follow, and eased some choreography explanations from Andrew. I know I did a very good job. Anyhow, the practice went well and our form improved quite nicely. We were pretty confident. By the way, we could not hide that we were shocked when we saw the number of the participants and when we saw Tim failing to proceed to the final competition. In the final competition, we could see many great performances. The cute lower grades, pretty girl groups, cool guys, and everybody else really did their best. I still remember some scenes, the activity was great. At last, Ellen showed who she is. I even wanted to record and add her ‘Rolling in the Deep’ in my playlist. Though it was almost the last performance, people used their last power to cheer for her powerful vocals. Of course, my brother Minhoo Kim’s presentation was also fantastic. He is still one of the best vocals in MITIS history.

Prom 2016: Gatsby This year's prom which was led by the beloved president Simon Park was absolutely nice. It was brilliantly successful, it was way funnier that the last year in my opinion. (Wait, can Tony Park read this? Don't tell him!) As a matter of fact, there were many twists and turns up to the day before the Prom. I saw Simon getting stressed and agonized. To begin with this part, I want people to praise my dear friend Simon for hosting it successfully and overcoming many hurdles. The Prom felt relatively free, the atmosphere was just light and joyful from the start to the end. Though there was a conflict and there was a mistake in passing of responsibility, most of the presentations went smoothly. The students gave so much effort in the decorations, which made the hall look very stylish. Everybody was a candidate for prom king, queen, prince, or princess. At last, when the waltz was over, the music became faster and louder. Everybody got crazy. Students played madly in front, and the teachers also greatly enjoyed the party at the back. I remember the teachers dancing with the selfie stick on one hand. However, when the music was over and everything was finished, many people could not leave the place easily. The hall became a bit emotional. Many students who are going to leave MITIS shed tears with their friends. In addition, the teachers also could not hide their feelings though they seemed like they are trying hard to do so. With teachers, I had many conversations and it was a meaningful time. In conclusion, I am sure that students and teachers both enjoyed the occasion. Perhaps this Prom will be remembered as the best Prom in MITIS history. Let us congratulate ourselves for making this every successful. Moreover, let us be thankful to the SCB members for presenting a brilliant memory to us.

Looking back at the memories, I feel that I will miss the people, places, events, and everything in the Philippines a lot. Thank you MIT for letting me have this kind of happy memories, I will remember the school as my mother school for a long time. This is written for all of my classmates in Grade 12 and our dear adviser Miss Anna, so this one will be a window to see the past for us. As time passes and as we get older and older, the memories will get more and more beautiful.
